Parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents are eligible for a permanent parent visa. The basic requirement is Balance of Family Test under which at least half of your children must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, or number of Australian children is more than the number of non-Australian children living in any single country. Parent visa has broadly 2 categories - Contributory and Non-contributory. The non-contributory parent visa is a cheaper option but the processing time is very long (up to 30 years). However, the Contributory option is more expensive but it is far quicker (5 years). Moreover, you can get a Bridging visa if you are at least 66 years old and you lodge your visa application onshore.
